Improving Asthma Case Management in Accordance with NIH Guidelines

The challenge was to encourage practices to start recognizing asthma as a chronic disease in order to improve patient care and outcomes. Our team of 101 Asthma Clinical Educators assisted practitioners and their staff through educational in-services to implement improved medical management of uncontrolled asthma patients. As a result of these efforts, 50% of patients were placed on ICS controller therapy as recommended by NIH guidelines. Outcomes for more than 60,000 randomly selected patients demonstrated how important more aggressive management is in improving asthma control.
