QUINTILES ANNOUNCES KEY APPOINTMENTS
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC - September 13, 1999 -- Quintiles Transnational Corp. (Nasdaq: QTRN) today announced the following appointments:
James J. Mauzey has been named Chief Executive Officer of Innovex, succeeding David F. White, whose planned retirement took effect Sept. 1. Innovex, a service group of Quintiles Transnational Corp., is the worldwide leader in providing pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies with integrated solutions to enhance the commercial success of their products.
Mauzey joined the company in March as Chief Operating Officer of Innovex, the position he held upon being named to succeed White. Prior to joining Innovex, Mauzey was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Alteon Inc., and before that President of the U.S. Pharmaceutical Division of Bristol-Myers Squibb Company. Mauzey began his career with Lederle Laboratories, where he held increasingly responsible sales and marketing positions, the last as Vice President of Lederle's International Division.

White will serve as a consultant until January 2000 and remains on the Quintiles Transnational Corp. Board of Directors. As a consultant, he will concentrate primarily on developing QUINTERNET(TM)Informatics applications for the commercialization group in Europe and Asia and on ensuring a smooth leadership transition for Innovex. QUINTERNET(TM)Informatics provides unique market research and healthcare information to pharmaceutical and healthcare customers worldwide.

Neil G. MacAllister has been appointed to the newly created position of Senior Vice President, Strategic Corporate Development and Planning. Prior to joining Quintiles, MacAllister was worldwide head of pharmaceutical company consulting activities for IBM. In this position, he also played a key role in determining IBM's overall strategy in healthcare and life sciences. In his distinguished 19-year career, MacAllister also served as a principal in the global pharmaceutical practice of Booz, Allen & Hamilton, providing management consulting advice to many of the major pharmaceutical companies in business strategy and organizational transformation. From 1986 to 1992, he held increasingly responsible positions in International Pharmaceutical Services, a division of Wood MacKenzie's Business Consulting Group. MacAllister began his career as Technical Service Director for NL Chemicals in New Jersey, and later joined Beecham Research Laboratories in the United Kingdom where he occupied positions of increasing responsibility, primarily in sales and marketing.

Steven E. Simpson has been appointed Chief Operating Officer for ENVOY Corporation, the leader in electronic transactions processing for the healthcare industry and a part of the QUINTERNET(TM)Informatics group. Simpson joined ENVOY in November 1998 as Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing, the position held prior to his appointment as COO. Before that, he was the President and CEO of HealthStat, LLC, an occupational healthcare company in Nashville, Tenn. Previously, he held the position of Senior Vice President of Sales and Product Line Development at Columbia/HCA, where he established the national sales and corporate product line development initiatives to represent Columbia/HCA's provider facilities to various customer segments. Simpson also spent 11 years with Johnson & Johnson, where he held senior level positions in Pharmaceutical Sales, Marketing and Managed Care.
